We be Jammin

So me and my mama decided to go Berry picking as you can see we had a lot of pickin ahead of us. but we had visions of Fresh Strawberries and the many ways we could use them.

So in a short time we both had a full bucket, now time to weigh them and see what we have.

Next step was washing them and taking off the Hulls how fun.

I then decided to boil them and try to turn them into Jam. Once I started reading the recipes and it called for 4 cups of strawberries to 7 cups of sugar i starting thinking it was going to be way to sweet for me so I decided to make more of a spread 8 cups of strawberries to 1/4 cup sugar.

It honestly turned out perfect for Bagels. Its not too sweet because there is just not much sugar in it. I filled two Jars with it and put them in the fridge the rest I bagged into freezer bags and froze them for when they are needed in the Winter.

This was a perfect day spent with my MOM, picking berries and learning from her how to cook them.

 

 

Mermaids of the Cheese and Bacon kind!

So I decided that today was going to be dog treat day, Im getting sick of hearing about dog food and dog treats that are unhealthy for our animals because they are made with crappy ingredients. And lets face it I’m tired of paying high prices for dog treats only to have them look and smell like dried play dough. So I set out on a mission.

In this recipe there is Oats, Whole Wheat flower, egg, Bacon bits (real cooked bacon) grated cheddar cheese and some water. I just mixed it all together until I came up with a nice dough, adding flour as I went

.

I used real Bacon that I cooked up, some of the pieces could have been smaller but I don’t think the dogs will complain.

Time for the Cheesy Mermaids to go into the oven.

And the final product…….my two boys love them, but my Chihuahua is much harder to please, so in keeping with treat making I am dehydrating some sweet potato to make some sweet potato chews, which you can buy but they are both expensive and loaded with chemicals that I don’t think anyone should consume.

once this is dehydrated I will cut it into strips for her and it will give her something to gnaw on, she loves them. Hopefully these ones will turn out the  way I am hoping.

Little Lorraine

Well its been a long time since I posted. I have had lots of changes going on in my life. Biggest one is that we sold our house and purchased another one. The house we chose is 1/4 the size of the house we had, this is going to be easy to heat and easy to maintain. The house we had was great it just became too expensive to live in anymore. Now I am learning to get rid of things I don’t need and downsize so that we can comfortably reside in a smaller house. So we found our new house on property guys here was the first picture I saw of it. We decided that the move was best for us and our canines. They all love it.

This is the most beautiful place I have ever lived before we are surrounded by wildlife and I get to watch the seabirds out the back window. I cannot wait to start to decorate the inside. The man that owned the house did not paint the inside or anything so its like a clean slate inside.

 

This is the view from the wharf. The house upstairs is 728 square feet. Its very cozy.  The dogs love walking on the shoreline.

Willow loves sitting in the sun in the window.

We feel like we live at the cottage. As you can see so does Willow!!!

 

Me and my love

Me and my husband last Saturday at a dance held by  the Cape Breton Chordsmen. We had a Turkey dinner, each lady got a rose when we went in and then it was followed by a Dance. The music was great, the company was fantastic. Wish they had these things every weekend.
