Sweet-Chi-hua-hua

Published July 21, 2013 by Cheeky Chihuahua

So we have been feeding our dogs the RAW diet using Raw hamburger and adding Omega oil and rice and veggies, they loved it, their fur became softer and healthier and they seemed way mo re alert. My Chihuahua has changed her mind on this whole diet idea and decided to wage a hunger strike on me. So two days of her not eating and I decided to whip up some Sweet Potato and Hamburger knowing how much she loved the Sweet Potato.

This is how it started out, medium ground hamburger some water and a sweet potato cut into cubes and slowly cooked. I added a little tiny bit of garlic, not much a little bit of parsley and an organic beef bullion cube.

It then cooked down to this

I continued to cook it slowly adding a little bit of cornstarch to thicken it. Its really easy to make home made dog food, if you have a little spare time. We do mix their food with some high grade kibble just for a little bit of crunch. When making your own dog food you have to remember to cover all of their nutritional needs or they will not be getting what they need to be healthy.

They all loved it including the Chihuahua who is the fussiest of them all.

Little Lorraine

Well its been a long time since I posted. I have had lots of changes going on in my life. Biggest one is that we sold our house and purchased another one. The house we chose is 1/4 the size of the house we had, this is going to be easy to heat and easy to maintain. The house we had was great it just became too expensive to live in anymore. Now I am learning to get rid of things I don’t need and downsize so that we can comfortably reside in a smaller house. So we found our new house on property guys here was the first picture I saw of it. We decided that the move was best for us and our canines. They all love it.

This picture is our back yard

outside

This is the most beautiful place I have ever lived before we are surrounded by wildlife and I get to watch the seabirds out the back window. I cannot wait to start to decorate the inside. The man that owned the house did not paint the inside or anything so its like a clean slate inside.

This is the view from the wharf. The house upstairs is 728 square feet. Its very cozy.  The dogs love walking on the shoreline.

Shameless Chihuahua Shots

willows tongue

So while I sit here waiting for  the big storm to hit I decided to do up a little collage of my chihuahua sticking out her tongue while she is sleeping. I think the reason she does this is a small under-bite which causes a little space between her top and bottom jaw, allowing her tongue to slip out when she relaxes.

Now if she was a human she might be embarrassed about this little “issue” but she doesn’t even notice. When I see it I have to run and grab a camera. Sorry to betray  the trust you have built up with me, but I just cannot help myself when I see this because it is just too cute. I know you will forgive me Willow because everyone else will think its cute as well!!!!!!

Theres nothing like a hand made purse

purse

I made this purse for my mother in Law. She loved it. I then made one for an auction held for Animal Rescue Coalitions in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The lady who won it requested the very same material, luckily I had it available. The rescue made $30.00 which isn’t too bad. I enjoyed making this purse and will have to make one for myself soon. Just thought I would share as a bit of craftiness on this gloomy freezing rainy Monday.

And for a few more introductions

while I am setting up this blog I may as well introduce you to my two other dogs, both of which were rescued. Along with the Chihuahua princess we also have a terrier and a shepherd mix.

cocoacute    First there is Cocoa, He was rescued when he was six months old. A person I worked with had gotten him at a pet store taken him home and then  realized, oh I didn’t think my poorly planned purchase would be this energetic. So she promptly tried to kill him with Sudafed. she gave him three tablets to see what would happen but lamented at work “it only gave him more energy”.  I stood there not quite sure what I was hearing, while she laughed at her own story, I thought Oh My God that poor dog. That was when I started my quest to rescue this dog from this evil lady. One month later and several other failed attempts at doing him in she told me she was going to euthenize him. I told her no I would take him and she promptly disagreed and said “no he is too much even for you”. I said “well save yourself $120.00 dollars and let me try him out”. He has been with me ever since (like she would ever get him back).

harley6

Harley was a young pup when he was tied in someones yard to live a long life of neglect. Neighbors started to complain about him to the SPCA. He was skinny and beaten for barking when finally the landlord decided enough was enough and took him to the SPCA themselves. Thats where we found him while we were volunteering. He was scared and shaking and had a look on his face that said, “please don’t hurt me”. He still cowers if you get loud over something, even if your just trying to compete with the budgies (who like to talk over everyone). He was mistreated, but lucky for him he was unchained early enough in his life that it wasn’t how he spent his life,  watching the world go by as he sat on a 6 foot rope.

A Chihuahua’s life

Published January 25, 2013 by Cheeky Chihuahua

willowpillowThis is my Rescue Chihuahua Willow. She started out life as a U.S. citizen, that didn’t work out so well for her. She was living in Georgia and her family no longer wanted her anymore. At four and a half years of age, she was taken to a shelter. A rescue down there pulled her and took her to find her a home. She was there for a long time before she was offered to a rescue in Nova Scotia Canada Called Nova Scotia German Shepherd Rescue they were transporting animals across the border to find them homes and this little one got on that train somehow. Me, I had just come out of a horrible relationship and moved back home after 20 years of living on my own. I had a Terrier but felt he might be lonely and in need of a companion. Then I see pictures of this little cutie looking for a home, Oh my God never did I think I would fall in love with a Chihuahua, I have had German Shepherds growing up and a Doberman in my adult years along with a Black Lab girl all big dogs as you can see.

I thought little dogs would not fit in with my thinking. They had their place but I was not convinced I was a small dog person. Needless to say, it was love at first site. My Terrier liked her, she hated him, didn’t want him to touch her or look at her or even think about her or she would growl and walk away. You could almost hear her say out loud to him, “your stinky and I don’t want you to touch me……….ever”. But he is a Terrier and he just carried on doing what he did best, ignore her and keep living his life. he wasn’t scared of her he just knew he was never going to curl up beside her for a good afternoon nap.

I cannot see ever being without her, maybe her life started out shaky I don’t know much about it, all I know that now is she is a pampered pooch who follows me everywhere,  sits on my lap when I’m sitting and stands beside me when I’m standing, I’m her savior and for some reason I think she knows that.

That being said I have become obsessed with all things Chihuahua, I love her. She is Cranky, Growly, and Short tempered. At times I even think she could be Bi-Polar. She thinks she is 80 pounds when she is only 9 pounds. Everything must go her way or you will know about it. She will bite without hesitation if you get her on a bad day. Her perfect day is getting under the covers and staying in bed. Lets just say when she is good she is really good and when she is bad, well you know how that saying ends.

I never regretted for one moment rescuing my little Chihuahua it has opened my eyes to a whole new world of dog ownership, are they for everyone – that is a big NO, but if you can handle the mood swings the loving side of her is just as intense as the cranky side of her.
